Board of Directors
Ski for Light Canada is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
President, Peter Quaiattini, AB
Peter is an outdoors enthusiast – enjoying cross-country and alpine skiing in the winter and tandem cycling, hiking and paddling in the summer – and is a former Paralympian. His formal education is in engineering and business analysis, and he is retired from a 30+ year career in IT in the transportation sector. Peter resides in Calgary with his wife Nadine and volunteers his time to advocate for accessibility and inclusion for persons with a disability. He has enjoyed attending Ski For Light Canada on a regular basis since 1999.
Vice President, Greg Thompson, AB
Greg enjoys being part of the fun and camaraderie that gets generated from events such as Ski For Light Canada. Organizing Cross Country Ski Races since 1994, Greg has been Chief of Competition for the 2017 Paranordic World Cup and has had experience on both the organizing and race committee side of events. Most recently, Greg was Chair of the Organizing Committee for the FIS 2024 Cross Country Skiing World Cup in Canmore.
Treasurer, Don Lee, AB
Don has been guiding at Ski For Light Canada for many years. A native of Alberta, he spent most of his career in the Air Force and in the oil and gas sector where he practiced Mechanical Engineering and Project Management. Since retirement in 2015, he continues to enjoy running, yoga, skiing, cycling and time with family. He continues coaching a marathon training group with the Calgary Roadrunners where he also served on the executive. Don has a growing appreciation of helping others realize their goals and is looking forward to working with the Board members.
Secretary, Conrad Savoie, AB
Conrad lives in Calgary and after retiring from a career in engineering and project management in 2023, he joined CNIB as a vision mate volunteer. He likes hiking, cycling, cross country skiing and participates in stretching and core strength classes regularly. Conrad was a board member of his community association for 6 years followed by another 6 years as the president of a hiking club. 2026 was his first time guiding at Ski for light and the positive impact it made convinced him to help further by joining the board of directors.
Director at Large, Kim Umbach, ON
Cross‑country skiing has shaped Kim’s life since high school, from racing in the 1988 Paralympics to rediscovering the joy of the sport at Ski for Light in 2024. Kim is equally committed to accessible fitness through running, tandem cycling, and supporting blind and low‑vision athletes as a leader with Achilles International Canada and the CCB Blind Roadrunners. With three decades of experience building strong volunteer communities, Kim now coordinates volunteers for Alongside Hope. Kim is excited to support Ski for Light Canada’s vision of barrier‑free skiing and meaningful connection.
.
Director at Large, Lee Rinne, AB
Between 2009 to 2023, Lee competed as a triathlete in over 70 long distance triathlons, marathons and trail ultras, an experience that reinforced the importance of preparation, risk awareness, and safe decision-making in high-intensity outdoor environments. Lee brings a long-standing commitment to inclusive and adaptive sport, with extensive experience as an athlete, guide, and program leader. Lee also volunteers with Rocky Mountain Adaptive, supporting participants in mountain biking and cross-country skiing. Supporting high-quality programming and the long-term sustainability of Ski for Light Canada is a focus and commitment that Lee will a Board member.

“Ski For Light Canada is more than a chance to spend several days skiing, it is also a social event to meet new and old friends. We know of two couples who met at Ski For Light Canada!”
