Greetings Ski for Light family.
First of all, I hope that you are all keeping well in these trying times. It has been a very strange year but I hope that you have all found ways to stay happy and healthy, and as an organization inspired by Norwegian customs and supported by Sons Of Norway, I hope that you are all having a chance to practice friluftsliv; a term that was coined by the Norwegian poet Henrik Ibsen in the 1850s who described how spending time outdoors could improve spiritual and mental wellbeing, and we can all use some of that.
As we will not be holding an event in 2021, we will be signing a resolution in place of holding the AGM. All items which would have been presented at the AGM will be dealt with by the board on February 12th 2021. If you would like a copy of the minutes from this, please email firstname.lastname@example.org after February 12th 2021 to receive a copy.
Our secretary Monique van Bergen resigned from her board position this summer due to personal reasons. She has been a very hard-working member and we will miss her and her attention to detail, and hopefully, we will see her at the next event.
In view of this, we are pleased to announce that we will be taking nominations for several board positions and we invite you to think hard about who you would like to have on the board, maybe you have thought about running for a board position yourself. Now is the time for action. We are calling for nominations for the following positions:
Director at large
If you have someone you would like to nominate:
Do they have something to contribute to our organization?
Have they unused leadership potential that could be nurtured by a responsible role?
Could their resume benefit from a leadership role they’ve been elected to?
This is a unique opportunity for them to make a difference in the life of an individual who is blind or partially sighted.
You can nominate yourself or someone else. Consider standing for election yourself, or nominate someone you know. If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors or to volunteer on a committee, please contact us at email@example.com for the preferred requirement profile for candidates for nomination and instructions on how to nominate a candidate and where to send your nomination.
Nominations must be received by January, 12, 2021, midnight your time.
The election will take place on February 12, 2020.
The lodge where we have enjoyed meals, quiz night and other events at William Watson is finally getting a much needed rebuild. I have been in contact with the folks at William Watson and they have informed me that the foundations are in and they are very happy with the progress on the new building. Unfortunately it isn’t scheduled to be finished until late spring of 2022, which means that we won’t be able to hold our event there until 2023, but I for one, can hardly wait to see what the new lodge has to offer.
The Alberta government has discontinued tracking in the park but it looks like there might be hope. Nordiq Alberta, the governing body for cross-country skiing in the province, submitted a proposal for a one year pilot project to implement parking fees at Peter Lougheed Provincial Park that it says should cover the cost of maintaining the trails — which is around $200,000. Hopefully this will prove to be a solution. They still have a couple of years to iron out the bumps.
I have spoken to the folks at Stake Lake and as of now, they are unable to commit to anything but judging by our history, it has been a group favourite. I have attended five events there and have many fond memories of the location. It offers a wide selection of trails with all levels of skiing and challenges that everyone can enjoy. We are hoping this will be our next event location and we'll be able to have an epic reunion there in 2022.
The board has been working hard on bringing Ski For Light Canada into the digital era and updating some of our policies and guidelines.
The board of Ski for Light Canada wishes you and your families a happy and healthy season.
